Cindy Ngamba: Olympic history-maker to make pro debut on iconic March 7 Albert Hall bill live on Sky Sports

Cindy Ngamba, the trailblazing star at the Paris Olympics, will make her professional debut on March 7, live on Sky Sports.

She will be part of an iconic night for women's boxing on a major bill at London's Royal Albert Hall, headlined by the Natasha Jonas vs Lauren Price world title unification.

WBC lightweight world champion Caroline Dubois will have her next fight on the card and Olympic medallist Karriss Artingstall will fight amateur rival Raven Chapman.

Ngamba made history at the Paris Games last year when she became the first refugee athlete to medal at an Olympics.

"I'm excited to start this new journey as a professional with BOXXER and Sky Sports. My main goal before the Olympics was to challenge myself. I feel like on this pathway I will be able to continue to challenge myself and grow as a fighter," Ngamba said.

"I have shared the ring with the best of the best in the Olympics and as an amateur. I want to share the ring with the best as a professional and push myself as far as I can go.

"It will be an amazing night on March 7 at the Royal Albert Hall. To share the ring with legends like Natasha Jonas and Lauren Price will be a special feeling.

"I'm looking forward to showcasing my skills as a professional for the first time. It is time for me to show what I am capable of and to continue to represent myself, Great Britain and all the refugees around the world."

Based in Bolton and trained by the GB team in Sheffield, Ngamba has lived in the UK since she was a child. She faced the threat of deportation even though Cameroon would have been unsafe for her.

Ngamba achieved the rare feat of becoming a three-time, three-weight England Boxing national amateur champion, extraordinarily doing it by descending through divisions.

Without documentation she could not box for Britain but kept her Olympic dream alive when she was selected for the Refugee team.

She qualified for Paris 2024, a significant accomplishment in itself. In her first contest at last summer's Games, Ngamba was drawn against reigning world gold medallist Tammara Thibeault and delivered a stirring victory over the Canadian, then beat host-nation boxer Davina Michel.

Ngamba could have progressed further as well, with Panama's Atheyna Bylon edging her out on a contentious split decision in their semi-final.

However, the bronze she won was a first Olympic medal for the Refugee team and secured her place in the history books.

She would feature alongside IOC president Thomas Bach and other key figures from the event at the heart of the Olympic closing ceremony in Paris.

After deciding to leave the amateur sport to turn professional, Ngamba will have her first pro fight on an iconic night at the Royal Albert Hall on March 7, live on Sky Sports.

Headlined by a thrilling all-British world welterweight title unification bout between Jonas and Price, this landmark event takes place as a curtain-raiser to the International Women's Day 2025 global campaign the following day.

'Be careful what you wish for'

Jonas, the unified WBC and IBF world champion, and WBA welterweight titlist Price faced off outside the Albert Hall ahead of Tuesday's press conference.

Price, the middleweight champion at Tokyo 2020, said: "It's giving me goosebumps.

"Walking out in a fight, an all-British clash, it's going to up there with winning that Olympic medal."

She added of Jonas: "I know I'm better in all areas. I back myself. My accolades speak for themselves.

"I will admit Tasha is my toughest test but I believe she brings another level of my game out and I rise again.

"With pressure comes diamonds and I will be coming out March 7 as the winner."

But Jonas warned: "The pressure's not on me.

"Lauren's the champion who's never lost a [professional] round, the Olympic gold medallist and there's a lot of pressure on her to come and do what she says she can do. The underdog suits me," she continued. "I've been here before and you've got to be careful what you wish for."
